Using this a lot for a quick cup of loose tea when I want some good flavor and a quick cup of tea
I own amportable tea thermos and although it has its own tea basket inside, I didn’t want to take the time or go through the mess of trying to make iced tea using just that.
The plan was to add honey (I don’t use sugar), tea, and then hot water in the appropriate temperature, and then brew it and dispense it right into the thermos with ice in it and have iced tea to go, quick rinse of the infuser and I would be off and running.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
I have to say that I am very impressed with this infuser. It is oblong so if you turn the front toward you, it is easy to pour into and put tea and sweetener into. I put in the hot water and then give it a quick stir (even using crystallized honey) and let it brew. I put it over my thermos for either hot or cold water, and then I am good to go.
IS THE TEA ANY DIFFERENT?
I made tea and everyone wanted some, so using the exact measurements and making it in a teapot with the fine screen large infuser cone (tea can float freely) the tea was completely different. The flavor was about HALF of what it was using this infuser. THAT was impressive. I have compared it with other teas and similar results.
CLEANING
Cleaning is fast. I rinse in hot/warm water and it cleans out quickly. I pour the tea leaves into our compost so it is not a problem for me. If I want to remove the screen, I can, but most of the time, it is fine to just rinse- all tea comes out and there is no need to remove the filter.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Although I bought this for iced tea in my thermos, I can see me using this a lot for a quick cup of loose tea when I want some good flavor and a quick cup of tea. I am finding I am using this with ice a lot and I have only had it a short time as of this review.
I will update as time passes to talk about durability issues should any arise.
